Close-Range Radar + Camera

11GHz Radar Camera with Close-Range BSD

A radar and a camera on one 7-inch screen, tuned for the last few metres. It catches the wall, the post or the person within three metres while the vehicle inches around, and warns harder the closer they get.

Overview

The radar for the last three metres

Long-range radar watches the road; this one watches the wall. Close-range maneuvering, backing a truck to a dock, swinging a forklift in a warehouse, edging a harvester past a fence, is where low-speed knocks happen, and a camera alone fails there in mud, rain or the dark. The R2 pairs an 11GHz-class millimeter-wave radar with a camera so the driver gets both a picture and a hard distance reading in the few metres that matter.

It detects a wall, a post or a person from one to three metres and grades the buzzer so the warning gets more urgent as the gap closes, alongside colour-coded boxes on the 7-inch IPS screen. The radar reads through conditions that blind a lens, the 1080P camera fills in the picture down to 0.1 lux, and the whole thing mounts on a bumper or a cargo box with little setup.

Close-range radar detection around a reversing truck with screen alerts

Graded buzzer warning increasing as an object nears within 3 metres

Warns harder as it gets closer

The buzzer is graded: a slow tone at three metres tightening to an urgent one as the gap closes, so the driver judges distance by ear without staring at the screen. Colour-coded boxes back it up visually, green through to red, for the last stretch of a reverse or a tight turn.

Radar reading through mud and rain where a camera cannot

Reads through what blinds a camera

A caked lens or a dark, wet yard is exactly where a reversing camera lets the driver down, and exactly where the radar keeps working. It detects short-range objects and moving targets, a wall or a walking person, with accuracy better than a tenth of a metre, regardless of the weather.

Radar and camera unit mounted on a truck bumper

Bolt it on and go

The unit mounts on a front or rear bumper or the side of a cargo box with minimal setup, which suits fitting across a fleet or a production line. It is a cost-effective way to add close-range protection to the machines that spend their day maneuvering among obstacles.
